An artist from Eccles is being featured in the London Cista Arts ‘Light and Shadow’ Visual Art Show online exhibition for the whole of November.

Philip Westcott is not a new artist, he has been painting since he was in Salford Grammar School and has made at least 500 paintings.

Born and raised in Salford, Philip’s first inspiration came from the Salford City Centre, where he found his love for painting Salford and Manchester cityscapes.

Philip believes the city in which he grew up came as a huge inspiration to his art. He said: “When I was younger I used to go to the Salford Precinct, which is now Salford Shopping Centre, with my parents, I was interested in the intimacy of people engaged in conversations.”

One of Philip’s favourite subjects is people and he paints them doing regular things. Proving that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, turning ‘regular’ moments into beautiful pieces of art.

He began his career by putting his work in Eccles library, where the curator of Salford Art Gallery saw and offered him to display it at Swinton Gallery. Which led to his first exhibition at Salford Art Gallery in 1986.

Since then, Philip has been part of multiple exhibitions and magazine features in the US and the UK, now including London Cista ‘Light and Shadow’ an online exhibition that anyone can see.

He said: “Getting your name out there, when more people see your work, you get these opportunities, it’s like a snowball effect.”

His paintings are also part of multiple private collections in Germany, Canada, Australia, Spain, Hong Kong, UK and USA featuring a range of styles and themes. In September Philip was featured in Tubes magazine special edition ‘Art from the Northern Heartlands’.

Philip sells books which showcase his paintings as well as some of the original paintings he’s made.

His works can be accessed by his website. Information on the exhibition can be found here.
