A Salford Red Devils player was part of the Samoa side who were defeated by heavy favourites Australia at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Tim Lafai endured the Rugby League journey of a lifetime as a key member of a Samoa squad who produced one of the sport’s greatest ever underdog stories by reaching their first World Cup Final.

Lafai was a late call-up to the Samoa side due to injuries, making the pivotal role he played for his country throughout the tournament all the more impressive.

En route to the final, Tim Lafai scored two tries as Samoa and shocked the Rugby League world by defeating hosts England in a dramatic semi-final.

This was a great win from a Samoa side who were thrashed 60-6 by England in the pool stage.

In the final itself, Samoa put up a great fight in a David vs Goliath scenario against the now 12-time-world-champions, Australia.

Early in the tournament, Lafai bagged himself two tries as Samoa demolished France 62-4.

Salford Red Devils fans will be hoping that the centre will be able to continue this fantastic form into the upcoming Super League season.

The Red Devils were last season’s surprise package in the Super League and unexpectedly qualified for the play-offs following a stunning winning run in the second half of the campaign.

Lafai will be hoping to help Salford continue this new-found momentum.
