Salfordians are being encouraged to support victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, through a list of appeals published by Salford CVS.

The appeals come after the 7.8 magnitude hit the countries between 3-4AM local time on Monday (Monday 6 February).  Dozens of countries, including the UK, have provided their aid to help with the search and rescue of people caught under the rubble in both Turkey and Syria.

More than 17,000 people have died across the regions, with a doctor and child working on behalf of Langworthy-based, ‘Syria Relief’’s parent charity ‘Action for Humanity’ confirmed dead.

Salford CVS published a webpage of charities accepting donations for victims of the disaster, encouraging Salfordians to provide financial aid and essential items.

The webpage featured links to national financial campaigns such as The Disaster Emergency Committee Appeal, UNICEF and Action for Humanity; as well as Turkish and Syrian charities White Helmets and Turkish Red Crescent.

It also advertised a donation drop-off appeal by the North-West Turkish Community Association based in Manchester and leaving tomorrow night (Friday 10 February).

The charity is encouraging those able to donate winter clothing for both adults and children, cleaning and hygiene products, Tents, Bed / Mattresses for tents, Blankets, Sleeping Bags, Thermos Flasks and Flashlights (that don’t require batteries).

Donations are being collected at Senol & Senol Ltd t/a GOSS Outdoor,  Unit C Canalside North, John Gilbert Way, Trafford Park, Manchester,  M17 1UP (next estate to Manchester United football ground N3 Car Park). Contact information for organiser, Merve Erol, is +44 7534 690257.
