Today marks the 28th anniversary of World Book Day, and educational centres across Salford have taken the occasion in their stride.
From The Mr. Men cohorts to superhero dogs, here’s a roundup of some of Salford’s best costumes, and contributions to this year’s World Book Day.
Eccles’ Salford City Academy staff went all out this year, donning an array of costumes including The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe; Harry Potter, 101 Dalmatians, and a collection of sandwich board Mr Men (and Little Miss) characters.
The Academy also treated students to a selection of literary lunches, featuring: The Curious Incident of the Hot Dog with the Oliver Twisted Onions; Walliams Sweet Chilli Burger; Horrid Henry’s Greedy Veggie Burger; and Madhatter’s Cupcakes.
World Book Day celebrates books, authors, illustrators and characters whilst encouraging young people to read. This helps to show the importance of reading and literacy.
Humans and animals alike joined in the celebrations at Charlestown Community Primary School, with Hugo the Dog looking super in a hero cape. A Dorothy and Scarecrow looked TOTOally cool in high-visibility jackets.
At Bridgewater Primary School, Mis Madhatter won the costume price in class 4KS.

Alternative Learning Centre, CSIN, Eccles, joined together in a colourful array of costumes, from Wonka to Minnie Mouse.
Holyrood Nursery, Eccles Old Road, opted for decorating potatoes in paint, plastic spoons and googley eyes.
And finally, Manchester-based Estate Agents, Oliver James, joined in the fun by kindly donated a box of David Walliams children’s books to Irlam Primary School.
