Grinning manager Neil Wood was visibly delighted by his Salford side’s 3-1 win over Doncaster Rovers which keeps them in the race for a play-off place.

He said: “Today I thought we were excellent. Today we dominated the game.”

His side had 61 per cent possession, and 20 shots at goal compared to Doncaster’s six attempts in the League Two contest.

He said: “We finished the last 20 minutes off in style, and we know we can shut games down.”

The dominant performance saw a brace from Luke Bolton and a fortunate long-distance effort from Stevie Mallan.

Wood was more than happy to praise his winger Bolton. “He’s doing very well in recent weeks, I’m really pleased for him today,” he said.

Bolton picked up an early head injury colliding with Tommy Rowe, but Wood made light of his appearance saying: “He was like a young Terry Butcher with that headband on.”

With nine games remaining the Ammies are still in among the play-off places with very important games coming up.

With six wins from the eight games in 2023 at the Peninsula Stadium, they seem to be gaining home form at the right time.

Wood said: “We have great opportunities to play teams in and around us, because we can take some points off of them.

“Any games are big. We’ve got nine games left and our target is to win as many of those as possible.”

With the Ammies failing to make the play-offs last year Wood added: “We’re confident in what we have got and confident in what we are doing.”

“We are going to go for it, but there are five or six teams and there is a short points gap between us.

“I think there is going to be some twists and turns but we have to be in and amongst it.”

Salford’s next game is away against second place Stevenage, Wood will be hoping to use this confidence to potentially leapfrog Stockport and Bradford City in the coming weeks.
