A 12-month environmental research programme ran by a London university is set to prepare Swinton’s Beechfield Field for the creation of new allotments.
The University of Brunel London are running the Beechfield Regenerative Garden project from April 1st 2023, which aims to treat contaminated land throughout the garden by removing heavy metals and planting a range of seeds.
Spanning over a twelve month period, the project plans to upscale test area, utilising up to 20m2 of land which is set to become the future Beechfield Allotment site, next year. The test area will be cordoned off with a fence.
The project was funded by a Women in Innovation grant received by the university, which will also account for the public to visit the site and learn more about the work during a series of open days. The university are also working alongside the Salford Allotment Federation.
