Salford City will travel to Edgeley Park this Friday night to play local rivals Stockport County in their race for promotion.

With the Ammies just one point behind Stockport in the league, it would be a massive opportunity for Neil Wood’s side to get a comfortable playoff position.

And with the away support being completely sold out ahead of the local derby, Salford defender Jason Lowe spoke ahead of the fixture: “It is a derby, it will be great for the fans. We’ve just got to go there business as usual.

“They’re a good side. We are going to have to play to our maximum to get something.”

In the reverse fixture, Salford lost 2-0 to ‘The Hatters’ Lowe continued on the fixture: “it’s important for us as a group to just focus on the game.”

And after coming off a 3-1 win against Stevenage, the defender spoke on the victory against their promotion rivals: “Stevenage are a well-oiled outfit they know how to play.

“We took our chances when they came. Yeah, it was a big victory for us. And that’s been and gone.”

With Lowe playing in the last eight fixtures for Salford, he has been an integral part of the side, which he added: “I’m enjoying my football. The team is performing really well, spirits are high and confidence is high, so it’s a good place at the moment.

“At this stage of the season, it’s about ironing out consistency.”

This has been a fundamental part of the team’s success in the later stages of the season.

And with all of the top six sides playing one another this weekend with Leyton Orient versus Carlisle and Northampton against Stevenage, it looks to be the perfect opportunity to close the gap. The defender also added: “It’s certainly an opportunity there’s no way of getting around that.

“It’s a big opportunity for all of us. We are looking forward to the challenge.”

But he quickly noted: “there’s no mistake why teams are there at this stage of the season. It’s still all to play for we know that.”

With this local derby being a significant part of the season, Neil Wood and the travelling supporters will be looking to continue to push for those automatic promotion places.

And keep one foot in the playoff places as the season comes to an end.
