Liam Shephard spoke ahead of Salford City’s crunch tie against Carlisle United this Saturday.

Shephard has missed over eight months of action following a hamstring tear back in August against Mansfield Town but has come back in hot form, notching three assists in six games since returning to the side.

“Its been a tough season, a very unlucky season for me. I’m taking every game as it is, one game at a time. And enjoying being fit, I think you take football for granted when you’re fit.”

The match against Carlisle United promises to be massive in determining who gets in to the playoffs at the end of the season and Shephard is determined for Salford to make the grade.

“If you’re in football for any other reason than getting promoted and winning titles then you’re in it for the wrong reasons we all want to experience those memories of getting promoted.

“It’s in our hands but it’s not in our hands at the same time. As long as we keep doing what we’re doing, it’s down to the others to slip up.”

With the season approaching boiling point and pressure being high, the Welshman has been relishing the pressure.

“Having the pressure is healthy because it makes you keep the standard really high.

“I think pressure is very good for you, it makes people train better. We all know what we want.”

Last time out, The Ammies won in dramatic fashion at Walsall, with a late winner from Matty Lund.

“Lundy [Matt Lund] came out of nowhere and luckily it went for us, it needed a deflection. We need that kind of luck if we want to go places and get promotion and playoffs.

“We actually do a lot of shooting drills and funnily enough Lundy was on fire in the shooting drill so it’s obviously transferred to the game and luckily its got us the three points.”

Shephard was also full of praise for loan signing, Louie Barry who had been “brilliant” since coming in

He said: “We’ll forget about his debut because I think he fell over about five times! Since then he’s been excellent. He brings something different to the team, he’s very direct.”

Salford will look to continue their playoff charge against Carlisle United on Saturday 29 April at 3PM.
