Salford City will look to build on their dramatic victory against Tranmere last week as Accrington Stanley visit the Peninsula Stadium this Saturday.

A Callum Hendry hat-trick and a goal from Matt Smith gave Salford the three points at Prenton Park in a chaotic 4-3 win, which put The Ammies back into the League Two play-off places.

Stanley similarly won in a sensational style as Jack Nolan scored in the 98th minute to give 10-man Accrington a 2-1 win at home to Harrogate Town.

Both sides sit 4th and 5th in the League Two table, equal on seven points, with the visitors on Saturday only ahead on goal difference.

Salford midfielder Matty Lund spoke ahead of the contest, saying: “It should be a really good game. They’ll be a good side, they always are.

“We’ll fight for everything. They’re a good footballing team, so we need to be at it. There’s no easy game in this league, If we don’t turn up with the right attitude and mentality then we’ll struggle.”

The Ammies won the last two meetings between the sides, a 0-0 win on penalties and a 2-1 victory, both at home in the EFL Trophy.

Stanley were relegated last season from League One, and have started the season reasonably well, only losing to top of the table Gillingham 1-0.

One possible burden for Salford heading into the contest is the upcoming Carabao Cup clash against Leeds United on Tuesday night.

Salford will have one eye on the Championship side’s highly-anticipated visit to Moor Lane, whilst Accrington remain fully focused on league play following being knocked out by Bradford City in the last round.

Ossama Ashley returns to the Ammies side following his sending off in the 2-0 loss at Grimsby.

For the visitors, midfielder Sebastian Quirk will be missing, being dismissed late on in their win against Harrogate.

Salford City play Accrington Stanley at the Peninsula Stadium at 3pm on Saturday 26 August.
