Neil Wood post Stockport (Salford City youtube)

Salford City Head Coach, Neil Wood, spoke about the club’s B team set up, Junior Luamba and getting through the night with no new injuries after the club’s 3-1 loss to Stockport County.

It was a night to forget for Neil Wood and Salford City as local rivals Stockport County ran out 1-3 winners at Moor Lane to dump the Ammies out of the EFL Trophy.

Despite the loss, Wood was upbeat at the fact he had managed to given so many young players playing time and was pleased with their performances.

Wood said: “I thought Junior [Luamba] did really well. Liam Humbles in the midfield showed a lot of bravery and a lot of energy in there. I thought Sandro [Da Costa] did really well when he came on. Really good and really positive, something for them to build on to.”

Junior Luamba signed for Salford’s B team set up recently, having previously played for Oldham Athletic. Neil Wood was full of praise for the club’s new B team in helping him deal with Salford’s mountain of injuries.

He added: “Its been really important, its been something the club have put together and it’s a good job that we have that for this season. At the moment we’ve probably got 11 or 12 fit first team players so we’ve had to dip in to our B team pool of players.

“The last couple of league games has been full of B team players on the bench so it was good for them to start a game.”

Salford’s Head Coach emphasised how important it was that he and his side got through the evening unscathed looking towards the weekend:

“The last thing we need at this stage is another injury we’ve got eight or nine already so we had to change the team around but within the rules. We had to select the team carefully.

“At the moment we’ve got through it unscathed we’ll have a bit of down day tomorrow then Thursday we’ll start our prep for Wrexham.”

Salford are out of the EFL Trophy but still have one group game remaining when they will host Manchester United’s U21 side.

In the meantime the Ammies will travel to North Wales this weekend to visit Wrexham where they will look to continue their rich vein of form in the league.
