Salford face Colchester United tonight in a clash where Salford will certainly hope to get the whole three points in but will be without Theo Vassell.

Vassell, who has played 20 matches for Salford this season will miss tonight’s game after he got a straight red in the weekend game against Mansfield.

After a disappointing display against Mansfield, earning Karl Robinson his first loss as Salford City manager The Ammies will hope to get back to winning ways against a poor Colchester side who sit 21st in the league, now 8 points below Salford.

Colchester’s last win came a month ago today against Morecombe in a one nil affair that saw goalkeeper Owen Goodman save a penalty.

January saw Colchester lose their highest scoring player, Joe Taylor after his loan was ended by Luton and was loaned out to Lincoln City in League One.

It will likely be a close fought battle but one Salford will be hopeful of winning, going nine unbeaten until losing to top of the table Mansfield on the weekend. Salford’s attack has been inform the last few games, scoring 12 times in the last five games against teams like Wrexham and Barrow.

Colchester have a relatively tight defence, conceding only 7 in the last five games, with three of them coming in one a draw against Forest green. So it will be defence against attack, especially given Colchester’s lack of goal threat following the departure of Joe Taylor.

If results go their way, Salford could climb up to 17th and finally catch that magic number of over 40 points to guarantee their safety from relegation. Something Colchester will also be eager to do.
