Salford Red Devils have confirmed that Chris Irwin has stepped down from his role as Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect.
The CEO of the Red Devils has stepped down having formally resigned. The club accepted his decision, and his departure is effective immediately.
Chris Irwin took on the job in February when a consortium led by Swiss businessman Dario Berta completed an eve-of-season takeover of the Super League club – formerly holding the role of the Chief Commercial Officer at the Salford Red Devils.
However, the Red Devils have struggled with many off-field problems, with issues over unpaid wages and key player departures.
Key departures include players such as captain Kallum Watkins, star centre Tim Lafai and half-back Chris Atkin most recently.
The Red Devils currently sit bottom of the division, with only the league win registered this season – and with head coach Paul Rowley forced to play many youngsters and developing talent, Salford have struggled to compete.
Following his departure the club shared a statement, which said: “We would like to thank Chris for his contribution during his time at Salford and wish him and his family all the very best in their future endeavours.
“Our focus remains firmly on the future as we continue to build on the progress made both on and off the field.
“The journey ahead is an exciting one, and we remain committed to our vision for growth, community engagement, and long-term success.”
With the club signing off the statement saying: “Reds Rise Together.”
The off-field issues will hopefully not impact the Red Devils too much, as they turn their attention to the Castleford Tigers on Sunday 18 May.
However, with a season for fans filled with uncertainty this will be another bump in the road of this league campaign.
