A full list of candidates standing in an upcoming Salford council by-election has been revealed.

Voters will head to the polls in the Barton and Winton ward on Wednesday, 22 April, to cast their votes for one of six candidates vying for a seat on the authority.

The by-election was called to replace long-serving Labour councillor David Lancaster, who died in February after 60 years of public service.

The ward boundary covers an area west of Eccles town centre, from Barton upon Irwell and up to Winton.

The six candidates, listed alphabetically, are as follows:

– Kirsty Anne Downie (Independent)

– Anthony Ian Duke (Liberal Democrats)

– Michael James Felse (Reform)

– Catherine Goodyer (Labour)

– Jack Groom (Green Party)

– Holly Ann Muldoon (Conservative)

The Barton and Winton seat was due to be contested at the local elections taking place on 7 May, but the vote was brought forward under electoral law after two registered voters called for an earlier by-election.

For those not already registered to vote, the deadline to register or update your details to allow you to have your say is Tuesday, 7 April.

The deadline to cast a postal vote is also 7 April, while people wishing to nominate a trusted person to vote on their behalf must apply for a proxy vote by Tuesday, 14 April.

Anyone who does not have a photo ID can apply for a free voter authority certificate, and the deadline to apply for this is Tuesday, 28 April.
