A special ceremony was hosted this week for two air cadet leaders who were officially honoured in Salford.
The ceremony was hosted by Salford City Council, with the pair receiving the Mayor’s Citizen Awards in a special ceremony on Wednesday 23 July.
The two air cadet leaders, Flight Lieutenant Julie Ward and Flight Officer Rebecca Waters, were given the award thanks to their commitment to helping young people over the past 11 years.
Julie and Rebecca work at Albion High School and lead the air cadet force at the school, with the duo also drive all over the country in their spare time to collect uniforms from other units and donate them discreetly to children who are unable to buy their own.
Schools have reported how children’s grades have improved when they have joined the air cadets.
With the contributions they have made not only to the local community, but wider communities across the country they were awarded with the Mayor’s Citizen Award.
The special ceremony saw Flight Officer Rebecca Waters, and her daughter, as well as Flight Lieutenant Julie Ward and her family member in attendance alongside Cllr Mullen and the Ceremonial Mayor of Salford Councillor Fletcher.
Following the award ceremony, Ceremonial Mayor, Councillor Heather Fletcher, said: “The special ceremony was our way of saying thank you to these to incredible people.
“Julie and Rebecca work tirelessly to improve the lives of young people in our city. We’re extremely lucky to have them, it is people like them that make our communities much stronger.”
