A community-run pub in Salford is staging a series of events to bring locals back since a major refurbishment.
The Star Inn, based in The Cliff in Salford, is running folk, quiz and games nights throughout November.
The Star Inn Folk Club has been running for 10 years on the first Wednesday of the month, attracting poets and singers from across the region.
The Star Inn, located at 2 Back Hope Street, Salford, had its most recent quiz night by Quizmaster Ben on Wednesday November 12 and costs £1 per person to participate.
David Ellis, who has been the bar manager for more than two years, has worked hard to create an atmosphere where locals can come and socialise through events such as the quiz.
“It’s a massive event, because pubs are closing and people haven’t got anywhere to go, especially the older generation,” he said.
“We have a brass band night, which is coming up soon. Holidays and New Year we always have something to do.”
David added that bands can play at the pub for free.
The event is one of several initiatives the Star Inn has introduced to bring locals together since its near-closure in 2009 following a change in ownership.
Since then, the pub has undergone a major revival, with refurbs of the toilets, making the pool room bigger and adding art to the walls, establishing itself once again as a cornerstone of the local community.
Ivan Holmes, a regular local and creator of the quiz night, said: “The quiz night is really good, I look forward to it, it generally draws a very nice crowd.”
