A Salford tenant says yearly rent rises in Eccles are making it harder for young people to stay in the area.
Rachel Fazio, who has lived in her property for three years, says the increases have left her considering whether the property is worth it.
“My rent goes up quite a bit every year,” she said. “I’ve never really given an explanation; it just happens.”
She says the cost of renting in Eccles is now pushing young couples and new starters out of the area.
She said: “It’s really difficult, especially for young couples or people just starting out. People are staying with their parents longer or moving into shared accommodation because they can no longer afford to live alone.”
Between early 2033 and early 2024, the average rent in the Eccles area rose by 8.2%. The average monthly rent in Salford rose to £1,143 in October 2025. This rate is higher than the annual rent increase across the Northwest.
Salford has experienced rapid growth in areas such as Ordsall, Media City and Eccles, driven by increased demand from young professionals.
For Rachel, the problem is bigger than one rent rise.
“Renters are suffering. It’s hard to save for a mortgage and pay bills,” she said.
