Karl Robinson has promised Salford City will play with the “handbrake off” when they take on Swindon Town in the FA Cup third round this evening.

The Salford City boss was delighted speaking after his side beat Swindon 3-2 for the second time this season in Wiltshire on Saturday.

Again, just as he did when the sides met at the Peninsula Stadium in September, Kallum Cesay netted the winning goal as the Ammies completed a League double over their promotion rivals.

Robinson will hope his side can prevail again, with a trip to the Etihad to face Manchester City in the fourth round a tantalising reward for the winner.

Ahead of the game, the Salford boss hinted that he would try to catch Swindon manager Ian Holloway off guard with such a tight turnaround between games.

Asked about tactical changes made by both teams for the game at the weekend, he said: “I’m going to do even more.

“On Tuesday, I think the handbrake will come off. We will both have a right good go at it. It’s a game of footy. I love it, so we look forward to a challenge.”

Robinson made history last season by guiding Salford City to the FA Cup third round for the first time in the club’s 86-year history.

Although his team were trounced 8-0 by the then reigning Premier League Champions, Robinson explained he would relish the opportunity to face Manchester City again.

But he admitted it will be a challenge to outfox Swindon manager Ian Holloway for the third time this season, explaining he holds the former top-flight coach in high regard.

“It was a real challenge for us on our bench (against Holloway). It’s good, I love coming up against managers who have managed at an awful lot higher level.

“We saw too real good teams playing today, an honest effort.”

Robinson is looking to use every trick in the book to ensure Salford City beat Swindon Town in the FA Cup third round, 7:45pm kick-off at the Peninsula Stadium tonight (Tuesday 20 January).
