Salford-born influencer Angry Ginge has been announced as a player for Soccer Aid for the second year running.

The social media personality, real name Morgan Burtwistle, has been confirmed in the lineup for the charity football match taking place at the end of May.

The footballing event, featuring ex-professionals and celebrities, takes place every year to raise money for UNICEF.  Last year, 74,000 fans descended on Old Trafford as the match raised £15 million for charity.

Ginge, who grew up in Eccles, said: “I’m over the moon to be invited back and very excited.

“Last year, I enjoyed it a lot.”

Ginge was crowned king of the jungle after winning the 25th season of ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!’  and was named Man of the Match in last year’s Soccer Aid.

Burtwistle commented on the importance of Soccer Aid: “The main aim is to raise as much money for charity, and I think the best way to do that is by putting on an entertaining game for the crowd and for the people watching at home.”

Manchester United fans Ginge explained that “the best moment was probably the Old Trafford stadium chanting my name.”

With the event taking place at West Ham United’s London Stadium, it will be interesting to see the reception he gets playing in front of an away crowd.

The announcement that he will be playing in the match follows Ginge’s controversial remarks about London at the recent BRIT Awards that took place in Manchester at the weekend.

“It is an absolute privilege to see the Brits in Manchester because it shows people are realising London is a sh*thole,” he said on stage at the ceremony.

The line was censored by ITV.

Ginge will be playing on the England Team this year, along with his hero Wayne Rooney.

Burtwistle added that he is “absolutely buzzing” at the prospect of playing the Former England and Manchester United forward.

Adult tickets for the event will cost £20, with juniors paying a reduced fee of £10. Details are available at socceraid.org.uk.
