It will be cheaper for businesses to install and run electric vehicle chargers from 1 April in Salford.
The move comes after Salford City Council approved a decision that would allow for a 100% business rates relief to electric vehicle charging points.
The cost savings to businesses with this relief scheme could be the make or break on whether or not EV chargers are financially viable in the city.
Michael Hemingway, Principal Officer Climate Change at Salford City Council said: “By reducing the cost for charging, it encourages a faster shift from internal combustion engine vehicles to Electric Vehicles.
“The relief encourages rapid investment in public charging.”
Transport is one of Salford’s biggest sources of emissions and the scheme is yet another step towards achieving Salford’s 2038 carbon-neutral target.
The UK government plans to end sales of new diesel and petrol cars by 2035.
