A Salford woman marked her 100th birthday by sharing a heartfelt message about the importance of friendship during celebrations at her care home.
Audrey Miller, a resident at Barton Brook care home in Eccles, celebrated her centenary in June surrounded by her friends and family.
She was born in Salford as one of six siblings to her father, who worked as an engineer and her mother, who was a housewife.
Audrey’s favourite subject in school was maths, and she went on to forge a career as a bank clerk and cashier.
Now widowed, she married into the Miller family and has a son called Peter and a daughter named Susan.
In the company of her loved ones, she urged everyone to “carry on being friends.”
“I’ve got so much happiness in my life; it’s the friends that give you happiness,” she said, wearing a birthday girl sash and a golden tiara.
“So please carry on, carry on being friends.”
Days after her important message, Audrey received a telegram from King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
A spokesperson for Barton Brook Care Home said Audrey’s milestone birthday was a special moment in an action-packed summer.
The care home, which provides accommodation for 120 residents, is set preparing to host a summer fair on Saturday 25 July.
Open to all residents, family members, friends, and members of the local community, the Tropical Paradise event will include a tombola, live music, food, and a variety of drinks for guests to enjoy.
Home Manager Luke Grayson said: “The summer months are a chance for us to bring everyone together and to create valuable memories for our residents and their families.
“The whole team has made this a really special time, and our Activities Coordinator Natalie has worked hard to ensure our residents have a variety of exciting and uplifting events to look forward to.
“Keeping everyone safe is our number one priority, so we’ve been ensuring our residents stay hydrated in the sun. A variety of hot and cold drinks are always available, and we’ve also been offering refreshing fruit platters, watermelon ice lollies and ice pops to help with hydration levels.
“We’ve had a wonderful summer at Barton Brook so far, and we’re looking forward to welcoming even more residents, families and members of the local community to our upcoming events.”
