Salford community groups that encourage people to get active have been urged to apply for a £5,000 grant.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has opened applications for the third round of its Wheels and Walks funding scheme.

The programme is aimed at walking, wheeling and cycling groups that want to grow and develop their services and learn from other like-minded community groups.

To get people moving and living healthier lifestyles across the region, TfGM are hoping to support 15 more groups across Greater Manchester by the end of the year.

Community group Recreate-U previously benefited from funding to run guided walking and biking groups.

It also produced a series of podcast episodes sharing stories and tips to break down barriers to active travel.

Applications for the Small Grants Scheme, which are for one-off purchases or short activities for groups that help people walk, wheel or cycle more often, are open until midday on Monday, April 20.

Dame Sarah Storey, Active Travel Commissioner for Greater Manchester, said: “I’m delighted TfGM’s Wheels and Walks fund is open again for community groups to apply for funding to help more people across Greater Manchester move more in ways that work for them.

“By backing community groups like this, we can reach the people who benefit most and help them build healthy habits that last. I’m delighted this fund is continuing to support such inclusive activities across Greater Manchester.”

Salford community groups have been urged to apply for funding.

More information about the scheme can be found on TfGM’s Wheels and Walks website page.
