Walkden Parr Fold Park - Salford bandstand fundraiser

Children and their parents from Salford have been invited to attend a free storytelling walk and picnic at a popular Walkden park this Saturday.

The event follows the success of April’s sessions at Parr Fold Park, where more than 60 people took part in a storytelling walk based on Pirates Love Underpants.

This time, participants will follow the story of Superkid, a rhyming children’s book by Claire Freedman about an ordinary child who becomes Superkid to help make life easier for others.

This week, superhero Captain Amazing will lead the storytelling walk, with youngsters helping bring the story of Super Kid to life.

The activity has been organised by the Greater Manchester-based charity, Banana Enterprise Network, who work to reduce poverty and make positive experiences available for those with lower incomes.

Christopher Allman, the charity’s finance manager, said: “Our Captain Amazing sessions will be great fun, and we have treats for the children.

“Our charity is excited to be working with a professional storyteller again and providing another free picnic.”

The walk will include music, games, bubbles and lots of superhero fun, and will be followed by a picnic which is completely free.

Christopher continued: “Each person enjoyed a gentle walk around the park, listening to the story and looking for the pirates’ underpants!

“The kids loved it. They took away a picnic with a sandwich, fruit, and snacks, and a pirate’s hat.”

It’s an experience aimed at adults and children aged 3 and above who live in the Salford and Farnworth areas.

Christopher added: “We are most grateful to the National Lottery Community Fund for funding our project and enabling us to deliver activities like these to Salford residents.”

There are two sessions on Saturday, 2 May, at 11am and 1pm, with attendees to meet outside Parr Fold Park’s Pavilion building 10 minutes before the start time.

For those who wish to attend, places can be booked over email at infor@bananaenterprise.co.uk or by texting the charity on 07775 066130.
