The body of a 15-year-old boy who was last seen getting into difficulty in a river at a Salford country park has been pulled from the water.

It was recovered at Clifton Country Park in Swinton on Monday 29 June, two days after the teenager went missing on Saturday afternoon, police said.

The discovery came after a large-scale search operation involving North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue.

An underwater search team, drafted in to help, detected the body yesterday afternoon and pulled it from the river.
In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: “Whilst formal identification has yet to take place, specialist officers are supporting the family at this difficult time.”

Det Insp Dave Ogden described the incident as “truly heartbreaking” adding: “My thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the young boy who has so tragically lost his life.”

He said he was satisfied there was nothing suspicious about the death and it was an “incredibly upsetting reminder of the serious risks associated with open water.”

“We understand people want to make the most of the warm weather, but we would urge everyone to stay safe and avoid entering reservoirs, rivers, canals or ponds,” he said.

“Please take care and enjoy the weather in a safe way.”
