Salford City manager Peter Cklamovski has praised his side after their narrow 1-0 win against Fleetwood Town.

The result surges the Ammies to the top spot in League Two. Second-place Barnet a point behind with two games in hand.

It was a lacklustre first half against Fleetwood Town, with neither side able to create a clear-cut chance. The deciding goal came in the 65th minute following an excellent spell for Salford after the break.

The Australian manager, who only joined the club during the summer after the dismissal of Karl Robinson, spoke to journalists after the match, saying, “Credit to the opponent. You know, they did a good job. They did their best, and we worked our way through the game to build our football and deserved the win and a nice clean sheet to go with it as well.

“I think that first 10, 15 minutes was a little bit of a tussle. Not our perfect way of playing, let’s say, but we’ve got to roll our sleeves up in those moments and earn the right to play, and the boys certainly did that.

“We had a really good half-time where we identified some spaces to take advantage of to make them move around. And you could see the fatigue in their legs a little bit from the first half. But as the game went on, we knew that the spaces were going to be opening up.”

The game saw a contentious decision go against the Ammies. Forward Kelly Nmai found the back of net, but was deemed to have dribbled the ball out of play. Speaking on the referee’s decision, Cklamovski said, “I’ve been told it was a pretty tough call to go against us.” He added, “The boys stayed focused, didn’t lose their heads. I think they felt there was a goal out there. But, again, stayed focused on a team performance.”

Salford City travel to Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night for the Football League Trophy, before returning to league action travelling to Cheltenham next Saturday.
