The Salford community have shared their tributes to the Vice-Chair of Salford Children’s Holiday Camp (‘Jam Butty Camp’) who has died at 57-years-old.
Paul Greggory, the Vice Chair suddenly passed away last month on September 7. His funeral service is set to take place this Friday October 9 at 1pm at Agecroft Crematorium.
The trustees of the holiday camp have paid their tributes to the one of the “kindest, caring and loyal friends you could ever wish for”.
Paul was the inspiration behind Salford By The Sea, the Salford Children’s Holiday Camp most commonly known as the ‘Jam Butty Club’. Salford Children’s Holiday Camp was established in Prestatyn, North Wales in 1926. Since then, it has provided a holiday home for over 80,000 Salford children from all walks of life.
Paul managed the day to day running of the camp and shared his memories with his ‘Throwback Thursday’ photographs across Facebook which a lot of people will be familiar with.
On behalf of the Trustees, Chairman, Nick Abbott said: “Ordsall and Salford have lost a giant of a man. One of the kindest, caring and loyal friends you could ever wish for. My heart aches for Kerry, his wife, and their children and grandchildren.
“We shared many laughs along the way, and his family should be so proud of the difference he has made to so many young lives in Salford.”
The camp trustees have agreed that the first building of the proposed redevelopment of the camp will be dedicated to and named for Paul’s commitment to getting the camp to where the plans currently stand.
Alongside his work for the camp, Paul was the main carer for his son as well as the coach for Winton Wanderers under 18’s team, Ospreys.
Colleagues at Winton Wanders said: “Paul had been a huge part of the club for many years, giving countless hours of his time to his players, our families and the wider community. He was more than a coach – he was a friend, a mentor and someone who genuinely cared about the people around him.
“Paul was the absolute epitome of giving back. He gave his time freely, cared deeply about his community and made a difference to the lives of so many people. Our thoughts are with Paul’s family, friends, his Ospreys players and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him during what is an incredibly difficult time.
“Paul will leave an enormous hole in Winton Wanderers and the wider Salford community, but the impact he made and the memories he created will never be forgotten.”
