Seventeen new apprentices from a local contracting business have completed 370 hours of volunteering at Ordsall Hall to improve access and visibility to the Grade I listed Tudor Manor house.
Apprentices from Seddon created a platform from the canal bank towards Ordsall Hall, as well as litter picking along the waterway and landscaped areas of overgrown vegetation, helping to improve the appearance and accessibility of the surrounding area.
Delivered in partnership with subcontractor DXI and Salford City Council, the initiative saw the apprentices generate more than £169,000 in direct community investment.
Paul Dennett City Mayor of Salford said: “It was great to see Seddon’s apprentices volunteering in Salford. The apprentices helped to improve the visual connection between the River Irwell and the historic Ordsall Hall. By opening up the area and creating a clearer line of sight, the work provides visitors with an enhanced view of the Hall and its surroundings, helping to showcase its significant heritage and encourage greater appreciation of this important landmark within the Salford community.”

Seddon is one of the UK’s largest privately owned and family-managed contracting business providing end-to-end integrated property services across the Northwest, Yorkshire and the Midlands.
Two of their apprentices who participated in the community day are part of the first-ever cohort of the Build Salford Foundation. The foundation is a unique traineeship programme helping people aged 16 to 24 enter careers with leading construction companies.
Owner and director of Seddon Nicola Hodkinson said: “Our Community Day in Salford saw our apprentices gain practical experience while also seeing the direct impact they can make in their local community. These initiatives demonstrate how investment in apprenticeships, local employment and community volunteering can deliver meaningful social value.
“At Seddon, we recognise how the role of construction extends far beyond the delivery of physical projects. By partnering with local organisations and investing in emerging talent, we’re supporting the immediate needs of the community while contributing directly to improvements in Salford.”
