A regeneration plan has set out an ‘exciting and ambitious’ future for Eccles Town Centre.
The local town centre and its transformation project could be given the green light if Salford City Council’s Cabinet approves its Masterplan Vision on November 10 2026. The plans have been developed by Salford City Council and Muse, a nationwide placemaker who was appointed as the council’s strategic regeneration partner for Eccles Town Centre in July 2025.
The vision has had extensive input from local people, businesses and stakeholders gathered through two phases of Community Conversion in Autumn 2025 and 2026.
Phase one of the community conversation concluded on November 19 2025. During this stage, people’s views were gathered to help shape a draft masterplan for Eccles Town Centre. That feedback helped to shape a draft masterplan that was shared during the second phase of the community conversation.
Deputy Mayor of Salford Mike McCusker said: “The proposed Masterplan Vision sets out an exciting and ambitious future for Eccles.
“An extensive community conversation helped to ensure that this has been shaped by local people, along with businesses and also people who work in or visit the town centre. I would like to thank all those who took part. Cabinet will discuss the vision at the meeting, and a full decision will be made.”
The plan sets out a clear framework for the future of the town, with 1,300 new homes, increase activity on Church Street, enhance St Mary’s Church Gardens and improve accessibility.
Subject to Cabinet approval, work will move into the next phase of delivery including early public realm and the development of the first detailed proposals of new homes.
Senior development manager of Muse, Matt Whiteley said: “Hundreds of people have taken the time to get involved, tell us what matters to them and help shape the Masterplan Vision, and that has been central to the work we have done to date.
“There is a real appetite to see positive change in Eccles, while protecting the heritage, character and community that make the town special. We’re proud of what has been developed so far and excited about the next stage.
“We look forward to Cabinet considering the Masterplan Vision and, if approved, taking the next step towards delivery.”
