THIS YEAR, Chorlton are getting involved by hosting Paint Chorlton Pink on the weekend of October 20, supported by Chorlton’s Royal Bank of Scotland firm.

October marks the start of Breast Cancer awareness month, the most common diagnosed cancer for women in the UK.

Paint Chorlton Pink hosts a range of pink themed activities across the town, from independent businesses, local bars and restaurants, to a funfair hosted in the St John’s Church Car Park.

The event gives Chorlton a chance to raise money for Breast Cancer UK, where over 50,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK.

Organisers of the event, Jemma Todd and Rebecca Jones were invited to the Prevent Breast Cancer centre based at Wythenshawe Hospital in the Nightingale centre where they discovered they were the only UK Charity entirely dedicated to the prediction, prevention and early detection of breast cancer.

Jemma said, “We were really impressed with the support and facilities available to men and women at the centre and wanted to do as much as we could to help this crucial charity achieve their fundraising aims.”

Some of Chorlton’s most innovative ideas include the BBQ Coffee Shop who are selling a pink beetroot latte and pink cupcakes for the three days with all profits going to the charity and The Launderette on Beech Road, who are creating a pink cocktail on the menu for the weekend.

St John’s Church car park will host a range of activities on their funfair, for families and their children on the 21st October.

“We think by being involved it shows the caring community spirit, Chorlton is renowned for its support of good causes and we have the best artisan businesses in Manchester,” Jemma expressed.

Prevent Breast Cancer can provide a range of merchandise to help host individual events including leaflets, collection boxes, branded merchandise, balloons and t-shirts.

With most people at some stage being touched by the news that a friend, family member or colleague has been diagnosed with breast cancer, Jemma says, “We hope the weekend will draw attention to the great work carried out at the Nightingale centre by Prevent Breast Cancer and showcase the generosity and talents of Chorlton’s fabulous business owners.”
