A dramatic multi-agency raid has taken place right on our doorstep at Salford Quays as part of a major investigation into an alleged liquid drug supply network.
Emergency services wearing specialist protective gear descended on a Quay apartment on Monday 24 August alongside a secondary search at a business on Gordon Street in Stockport.
Two men in their 20s were arrested at the scenes on suspicion of exporting Class A and Class B drugs, and both are currently being held for questioning by Greater Manchester Police.
The involvement of hazardous materials units, fire crews and paramedics was ordered due to the risk of volatile chemicals being stored and processed inside the properties.
While the Salford site has now been cleared, a forensic scene remains active over in Stockport as investigators gather evidence.
Tactical Commander Chief Superintendent John-Paul Ruffle explained that the operation followed months of planning designed to protect the public from dangerous chemical and fire hazards.
He warned that criminal networks operating in local communities would be pursued relentlessly and urged anyone around the Quays or wider area with information on suspicious activity to contact GMP on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
