MANCHESTER UNITED midfielder and Salford local, Angel Gomes has signed a professional contract with the club at the age of seventeen.

This comes after making history last season as being the first player born this millennium to play in the Premier League as he was brought on for Wayne Rooney against Crystal Palace.

Last season Gomes finished with 12 goals and nine assists, finding himself at the heart of the United youth team’s attacks in the no. 10 role.

The seventeen year old has enjoyed a successful year for both club and country as he became the youngest ever winner of the Youth Team player of the year for United, while he was a part of the under 17’s World Cup winning team with England.

Gomes comes from a footballing family as his father played for Salford City and Portugal under 21’s.

The youngster could have played for Portugal due to his heritage but having been born in London and lived in Salford most of his life, Angel Gomes chose to represent England on the international stage.

Angel Gomes will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Marcus Rashford who has put the footballing world on notice since his first team call up for Manchester United back in February 2016. Similar to Rashford, Angel Gomes is a homegrown player and has the potential to join Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs as one of Manchester United’s greatest homegrown players.

With the likes of Scott McTominay getting a run of games in the first team there’s no reason why Angel Gomes can’t make a name for himself in the Premier League this season.
