All through December the Rotary Club will tour the streets of Worsley with their Christmas float to raise money for local charities.

Club members and volunteers are going door to door alongside the Santa float as they collect donations through different parts of Worsley between 29th November to 21st December.

Local residents came out to join in the festivities and donate as excited children met Santa.

Chairman of Membership, Tony Clayson, said: “We take the float around Worsley, as other clubs do in their area, and we bring joy to the residents and we make a collection for local charities. All the money raised in this collection goes back into the community.

“In the first months of the new year we invite local charities to apply for the distribution of the funds in a Dragons’ Den style evening”

All organisations that apply come along to an evening, do a pitch for their charity and receive between £300-£500 each for their local cause.

Previous recipients of funds include Coffee For Craig, a local charity working with the homeless, Wipe Your Tears, supporting children and families affected by cancer and Lets Hear Salford, helping affected by hearing loss.

Primarily through the Christmas float, the club usually raises in excess of £20,000 for local and Rotary charities throughout the year.

The Rotary Club of Worsley received its Charter from Rotary International in 1978. They currently have 24 members all from different backgrounds, professions or vocations.
