Salford City have announced the signing of Zach Jeacock on a season-long loan from Birmingham City.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper has previously had a spell on loan in the National League North with Gloucester City, but this will be his first loan move to an EFL Club.

Jeacock is highly-rated in the Birmingham academy, having been at the club since the age of seven.

He made his Championship debut for the Blues last season, and he has also represented England at Under-19 level.

On joining the Ammies he said: “I’m delighted, can’t wait to get going, can’t wait to start. I’ve met the lads, trained with them, they seem like a great bunch of lads. I spoke to the Gaffer, he seems like he’s got a great ambition for the season so yeah I’m delighted to be here!

“Men’s football is priceless for a young goalkeeper, especially in this day and age so it’s great to get here and hopefully I can make an impact. I’m really excited that I can be here for the season, get my head down, work hard and get ready to go.”

Salford have already announced the signing of goalkeeper Tom King from Newport County earlier in the transfer window, however manager Gary Bowyer admits competition for places can only be a good thing.

He said: “[I’m] Delighted to have brought Zach to the Club, it’s his first loan to a League club, he’s coming in to provide competition for Tom King whose come in at the beginning of pre-season, settled in and done very well.

“Zach knows that he’s got a fight on his hands but it’s exactly what we want in that position just like every other position, it’s good, healthy competition.”
