A new dance class is being held in Eccles’ Rainbow Community Centre with hopes of encouraging enjoyable exercise.

Dance:X has been established for five years in Preston but has expanded to Eccles this past year.

Their motto is ‘exercise in disguise’ as they combine dance and exercise to create a fun, enjoyable and music-fuelled workout. The classes are held every Wednesday from 7-8pm, with the first class being free of charge. After, there is a small fee of £3 per class.

Marcus Wright, 35, is the creator and owner of Dance:X classes. After moving to Eccles in May he brought his classes with him. With an expansive background in dance, he choreographs and instructs each class. He said: “I worked with a personal trainer in Preston and have found specific dance moves that train certain muscle groups.”

Marcus explained how “if you’re not into traditional exercises, you can just have fun with it.”

Marcus’ dedication to enjoyable workouts shone through in 2020 when he received a Pride of Preston award for the work he did for the community during covid. He held socially distanced classes and free Facebook live streams where anyone could join.

Dance:X proves that dancing is an exercise that engages the body and mind. Keeping your brain active with choreography as well as your body with movement. It is proven to be an amazing cardiovascular workout that burns calories.
