Police have urged vehicle owners to make sure their cars are securely locked before leaving them unattended following reports of antisocial behaviour in Salford.

Greater Manchester Police has warned motorists to keep their vehicles locked, remove valuables from sight and double-check that doors and windows are closed before walking away.

The advice comes after a spate of attempted break-ins in Eccles and Monton.

Officers have received reports of a group of youths trying car door handles in the area and have warned people to err on the side of caution.

A spokesperson for GMP said: “We have received reports of a group of youths trying car door handles in the Eccles and Monton areas.

“Please help protect your vehicle by ensuring your vehicle is locked, removing valuables from sight, double-checking doors and windows before leaving your vehicle and reporting any suspicious activity to police.

“If you have CCTV, doorbell footage, or witness anything suspicious, please contact us on 101 or Live Chat via our website.

“Let’s work together to keep our community safe.”

In the year ending March 2026, the vehicle crime rate in Salford was higher than the average level across the country.

Police recorded 6.35 vehicle-related crimes for every 1,000 people in Salford, according to the latest figures.
