Over the festive period, Irlam FC will compete in three fixtures in the space of just nine days.

Fixture congestion is not a rarity for Irlam FC but it will be a testing few days for manager John Main’s side nonetheless.

On Saturday 17 December, Prestwich Heys will travel to the RG3 Digital Stadium to face Irlam in a 1:30PM kick-off. This could be a tricky fixture for the hosts as Prestwich are 6th in the NWCFL Premier Division table meanwhile John Main’s side sit 12th in the league.

However, Irlam proved they are capable of defeating opponents who are higher up the table than themselves when they defeated 2nd place Wythenshawe Town 3-1 away from home on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday 21 December, just four days after the Prestwich clash, John Main’s side face an away trip to Cheshire outfit Northwich Victoria FC. Irlam will be looking for revenge in this match as Northwich ran out as 2-1 victors in August’s reverse fixture.

Irlam’s first fixture after the Northwich game will be on boxing day which is one of the most highly anticipated days on the calendar for football fans up and down the country.

This boxing day the Irlam faithful will be treated to a Christmas cracker as their side host Greater Manchester rivals Ashton Athletic.

If the Salford based side avoid being complacent, this game could give Irlam fans the gift of three points as Ashton Athletic sit rock bottom of the league and were recently battered 7-1 by Wythenshawe Town.

Irlam have no matches between now and the 17th, so at least the squad has some time to brace themselves for the upcoming fixture congestion and could therefore pick up some good results.
