Irlam FC will be hoping the wheels don’t fall off as they travel to high-flying Vauxhall Motors in the North West Counties Football League.

Manager John Main will hope to steer his side in the right direction to avoid the drop with only five games left to go in the season.

They currently sit in 18th place in the division with 37 points, 11 points clear of the relegation zone, with Burscough in 21st.

It was a 0-0 draw against mid-table side Lower Breck last time out, so the away side will go into the game apprehensive about facing a side that is second in the table with two games in hand on the league leaders Avro FC.

Vauxhall Motors FC was founded in 1963 after a new car plant was opened for the motor company in Ellesmere Port.

Their manager, Mick McGraa will be hoping that Lewis Buckley will continue the goalscoring for the home side. The striker has 22 goals in all competitions so far.

Irlam FC have only managed to gain two points from the past six games, whereas Vauxhall Motors have picked up 10 in which they thrashed Irlam’s most recent opponents 6-1, highlighting the possible gulf in class between the two sides. The Salford club will have to be at their best to give any travelling fans something to cheer about.

The hosts have an average attendance of 152 this season.

Kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday March 25 at Rivacre Park.
