Investment in local retail and more health facilities are among the top priorities for people living in Walkden, according to a recent survey.
Community centres, transport connectivity, and parks and recreation were voted alongside retail and health in the Walkden Annual Survey for 2023.
90 Walkden people took part in the survey, which was shared across social media this morning (Tuesday 23 May).
The top requested retail and leisure businesses participants wanted to see in the area were clothes shops, cinemas, market stalls, bars, restaurants and cafes, and bowling.
A series of anonymous comments on retail in the area were shared, with one participant saying: “Shopping centre needs serious attention.”
Another person said: “Make use of the empty units in Walkden Town Centre.”

I will beleive it when i see it, its sad that I have to go further afield to spend my money because walkden is like a ghost town. Its like we have been forgotten about. Bring the shops and people will shop here. We don’t need any more charity or card shops. Please listen to the local people.
