Salford City are back in action this evening against fellow play-off hopefuls Grimsby Town.
The Ammies will travel to Blundell Park looking to build on Saturday’s late win on the road at Colchester United, where Cole Stockton’s close-range finish twelve minutes from time was enough to secure a crucial three points and a clean sheet.
Before the win in Essex, Karl Robinson’s side had lost their last four matches in League Two and dropped out of the top seven.
But after the win, Robinson was delighted with the mental toughness his players had shown to bounce back from a tough run of form: “Our mentality has certainly been challenged, none more so than the last few games, so now our mentality has to be even stronger and make sure we’re at our best even more so on Tuesday,” he said.
Salford sit in the final play-off spot in League Two, with games in hand on every team above them as the promotion race begins to heat up.
David Artell’s Grimsby are also in the promotion hunt and will leapfrog Salford if they were to secure all three points.
This is the start of a very busy, season-defining March schedule of seven fixtures, including clashes with fellow promotion hopefuls Cambridge United, MK Dons and Notts County.
However they face a tough ask, as the hosts are yet to lost at home in 2026, but will be wary that when this exact fixture was played last season, it was Salford who ran out 1-0 winners from Matty Lund’s late strike.
Earlier this season, Grimsby were 2-0 winners at The Peninsula earlier in the season, and will be looking to record a first double over Salford since 2023.
Victory for Salford City would see them climb to 6th, just four points away from the automatic promotion places with 12 games to go. This is a great chance to pick up vital points, with half of the teams league not in action this evening, with league leaders Bromley the only other top seven side with a fixture, facing Oldham Athletic at Hayes Lane.
It’s a 19:45 kick-off at Blundell Park, with live commentary available on BBC Radio Manchester, and the game will also be shown live on Sky Sports +.
