Nine outdoor spaces in Salford have been voted amongst the best in Britain.

Agecroft Cemetery, Blackleach Country Park, Boothsbank Park, Clifton Country Park, Parr Fold Park, Peel Green Cemetery, Peel Park, Victoria Park and Winton Park were all recognised in The Green Flag awards 2023.

The seven parks and two cemeteries were assessed by a panel of judges and were rated on how welcoming, clean, healthy, safe and secure they were and how well they involve the local community.

Managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, The Green Flag Award is the international benchmark of high quality and best practice for parks and green spaces.

This is the fifth year that Salford university’s campus and Peel Park have been recognised in the award. Despite hard work from the community, Light Oaks park has not been recognised by judges.

Councillor Barbara Bentham, lead member for environment, neighbourhoods, sports and leisure praised the efforts of the many volunteers who support council staff in maintaining and improving the parks and green spaces.

“Parks and green spaces have to meet very high standards to win this prestigious award, so it is a great accomplishment to maintain Green Flag status for another year. I’d like to congratulate and thank everyone behind this achievement because our parks and green spaces are so important for people and wildlife.”
