A vibrant public art project with more than 20 different displays including a variety of street art and murals has opened in Eccles.

We Live Here was planned by art company Wild in Art and Salford City Council with the theme of the art trail being centered around celebrating Eccles’ history and heritage.

After opening on July 21, the project will be available for residents and visitors until September 30.

A map has also been created for residents interested in exploring the trail, with each location having a description of what type of art can be found and credit to each creator.

Russell Meehan aka Qubek, a street artist from Manchester focused on painting large-scale murals in the public domain and commercial settings spoke about how important these kinds of projects are for local artists.

He said: “I think the moment I started getting more confidence was when I started to actually put my artwork out there and people would enjoy it and like it, then I’d engage with people and speak to people about it, mainly on the streets, which is what I’ve been doing all week here.

“So it goes to show that when you’re involved in these projects, it really does boost your confidence and it gives you a reason to do it as well.

“I think it’s really important to have these projects, especially for artists, for the public definitely, but for the artist, it’s massive.”

He also spoke about how these kinds of projects can be very beneficial for the area as a whole.

He said: “I can see how these things do regenerate and rejuvenate places. It adds an extra element. When you start filling places with these things, people seem to think about them slightly differently. All the places people want to be, or most people want to be, have got street art in or graffiti.

“It really tells a story and it gives places identity, basically. It makes people remember those places.”

Qubek’s artwork can be found at location 19 on the art trail’s map.
