Despite going down to 10 men, The Ammies managed to salvage a late draw against Swindon at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday and will go into tonight’s important clash with high spirits.

The late equaliser came courtesy of another youngster, 19-year-old Liam Humbles, who powerfully lashed his strike into the roof of the net five minutes into stoppage time.

Young defender, Ethan Ingram, also found himself on the scoresheet for the first time in his professional career to put Salford ahead after just seven minutes, a lead that only lasted four minutes before Swindon found an equaliser.

Youth players have had a real positive impact in recent weeks for Neil Wood’s side with Kelly N’Mai breaking into the first team and contributing alongside Humbles.

With tonight’s opponents only sitting behind Salford on goal difference, the fixture’s importance is paramount with an opportunity to move into the top half of the league with a win and fortunate results elsewhere.

Doncaster themselves come into the game in good form with two wins on the bounce against struggling Tranmere and Sutton United, the latter having four put past them in an emphatic performance from Rovers.

Despite this, Doncaster has also endured a variable start to the season with a heavy defeat to Newport in August being a significant low. With Salford finding goals easy to come by at the minute, there could be plenty of opportunities to add to the 23 goals the Ammies have already scored this season.

Mo Faal and Joe Ironside are Doncaster’s top scorers this campaign with each on five goals, and both will be threats to a Salford City defence that has had its troubles of late, particularly conceding twice against Swindon and three away at Wrexham.

With Matt Smith notching his eighth and ninth goals of the season against Wrexham, leaving him joint second in the list of the league’s most prolific scorers, only behind Newport’s Will Evans, Neil Wood will be hoping he can add to that tally tonight and elevate his side into the top half.
