Victory Outreach, a church serving both Salford and Manchester, is hosting its third free Christmas day dinner.

Officially making it a yearly tradition, assistant manager Theresa John, explains that last year over 50 people attended and they hope to expect even more this winter.

John, founder of the meals, said: “I became increasingly aware that this time of year can be very lonely for many people and also costly.

“Many feel unnecessary pressure at Christmas-time which can affect mental health and we want to create a safe environment for anyone, from any background, to come and enjoy Christmas in the community.”

The lunches, which are funded this year by the church and “supported by church members and volunteers across the city”, will be running from 2 – 5pm at 19 Liverpool Street, M5 4LY.

Last year, the church volunteers also received support from Salford CVS, as they helped those in need and helped create some great memories.

Theresa continues: “I found it sad how so many people struggle at Christmas and became disillusioned with the commercialism of it all and wanted to create a space for people who didn’t have family or friends to be with or who maybe struggling financially.

“It’s been the best Christmases that I have had and I hope to be able to continue it.”

On Christmas day, individuals are welcome to just turn up or can call 07483 906 622 for more information.
