Foundation 92, Salford City FC’s official charity, has donated £3,000 worth of breakfast goods as the Salford Foodbank approaches one of its busiest times of the year.

The club has donated a considerable amount of Kellogg’s cereal to be distributed to the Foodbank, who have they been working closely this year with Salford staff even volunteering every week to help with the warehouse operations as donations increase.

Salford Foodbank Assistant Manager, Paul Harris, spoke positively on the club’s support to the charity as he said: The support is incredible at this time of year and will be huge to help us get through Christmas, and the rest of the winter as well.

“As we approach Christmas and the temperatures drop we see a huge increase in demand and it’s a really tough time of year.”

The Centre for Economics and Business Research found that the average UK household will shell out £550 on festive goods and services, £70 more than the year before, and many will begin to struggle with the growing costs.

Paul Harris continued to speak about the importance of the support, as he said: “The support that we’re getting from Salford City Football Club with their volunteers is great, and this donation from Foundation 92 and Kellogg’s will keep our stock levels high so we can provide throughout the winter.”

With the support from Foundation 92, Donna Hennessy, Head of Education at Foundation 92, added: “Supporting the Community in this way is what the Foundation is all about! Our missions and values are to serve the community in whatever way it needs.

“Thanks to Kellogg’s Manchester and the great partnership we have built, we have been able to donate £3,000 worth of Kellogg’s cereal, alongside Salford City Football Club, to Salford Foodbank for those who need it most over the winter months.

“Hopefully this will help people to know they don’t have to choose between food and turning the heating on or joining those that celebrate Christmas.”

The positive action the club has taken this year will be so important for the community of Salford, with the club’s partners and sleeve sponsor Salford Van Hire donating more than 600 match tickets to be distributed with food packages.

With the contributions made, Andrew Gordon, Creative and Engagement Manager at Salford said: “We’re extremely grateful to Foundation 92 and to Kellogg’s for making this donation, which will significantly help Salford Foodbank during one of the most challenging times of the year for them, and to Salford Van Hire for their continuing support.

“Our own staff are enjoying volunteering their time to help out in the warehouse, and it’s these sort of collaborative initiatives that help others which make me proud of our City!”
