A moving art installation that celebrates birds and their symbolism of “hope and freedom” is coming to Eccles this January.

The ‘Mystery Bird’ installation will run for five consecutive nights (January 23-27) and aims to “shine a light on the town centre.”

The installation is also part of Salford City Council’s regeneration project for Eccles which the council claims “is now an exciting opportunity for change.”

The artworks will travel down “designated streets” that are yet to be revealed, before culminating in a performance on Church Street outside St Mary’s Church on Saturday January 27.

Councillor Hannah Robinson-Smith, Executive Support Member for Culture, Communications and Strategic Priorities, said: “As part of our ongoing Events Programme in Eccles, Mystery Bird is an exciting project all about bringing people together; across the community and in the town centre.

“Mystery Bird is another fantastic reason to be proud of Eccles, to visit Eccles town centre and all it has to offer and is an opportunity to have an incredible cultural experience for free!”

The installation features contributions from paper artist Helen Musselwhite, vocal artist Jason Singh, video projection artist Illuminus, local fabricators M3 Industries, and digital expert Jack Hardiker.

Mystery Bird is originally developed by Quays Culture a partnership initiative with a mission to animate public spaces in Salford.

The production is for all ages and abilities.
