The Salford development company, Salboy, has recently gifted £100,000 towards the development of the new Salford Youth Zone.
Simon Ismail, Salboy’s Salfordian founder, has committed to a four-year patronage agreement for the new multi-million pound youth centre in Pendleton.
The youth centre will open next to Belvedere Road and Broadwalk, just off the A6 facing the university. Salford Council approved plans for the centre last year to meet the demand for more youth spaces in the city.
Works on the centre started at the end of January this year and are expected to be completed in early 2025.
Managing director, Simon commented: “It’s so important to me to give back to the city that made me. Salfordians support each other, it’s what we do.
“I encourage other local businesses to get involved and show that they believe in the development and longevity of this great city, and look forward to collaborating with my future fellow patrons to ensure the Youth Zone’s success.”
The development plans will see a purpose-built Youth Zone open seven-days-a-week, with more than 20 activities on offer for young people aged eight-19. Sessions will also be on offer for those up to 25 with an additional need or disability.
Salford Mayor Paul Dennett previously commented: “When it is open, it will make such a difference to the lives of young people in the city. It will also create jobs and volunteering opportunities for local people.”
It is also being developed by the umbrella charity EMPOWER, who already oversee the operations of another local Youth Zone, HideOut Youth Zone, in East Manchester.
