Major disruptions are to be expected for Salford residents travelling by tram due to an overhead line power outage.
Disruptions will be seen for Salford residents travelling from MediaCity on the tram towards Ashton-under-Lyne, via the Ashton line.
At around 10.15am today, Tuesday 29 April, a driver in Manchester city centre reported a loss of power and damage to a pantograph – which is used to connect trams with the overhead power lines.
The Bee Network shared on social media: “Due to loss of overhead line power in the city centre, the Ashton-under-Lyne line is currently suspended.”
Affected stations between Salford and Ashton-under-Lyne will be Harbour City, Anchorage, Salford Quays and Exchange Quay as the tram heads towards Cornbrook and Deansgate Castlefield.
While the line from Eccles to MediaCity will still be in operation.
Due to loss of overhead line power in the city centre, the Ashton-under-Lyne line is currently suspended.
Tickets and passes will be accepted on all local Bee Network bus services including the 7, 53, 76, 171, 172, 216, 219, 230 and 231.

The Bee Network continued: “Service changes are in place across the network.”
And for residents travelling further across Greater Manchester will be able to travel between the following Bury to Victoria, Rochdale – Victoria (Shaw & Crompton service withdrawn), Didsbury – Firswood, and Manchester Airport – Firswood.
As well as between Altrincham to Old Trafford, and Trafford Park to Wharfside.
The Bee Network continued: “Service changes are in place across the network.
“Ticket acceptance is in place on all Bee Network bus services. Simply show the driver your Metrolink ticket or pass when boarding.”
Following the incident, TfGM’s Network Director for Metrolink, Ian Davies, said: “Due to a loss of power we are currently unable to run tram services across the city centre and other parts of the network.
“We are investigating this as a matter of urgency, with operator staff on site and across the network and apologise for the inconvenience this is causing.
“Given the nature of the incident we expect this could last for some time and potentially affect peoples’ journey home from school and work later.
“We will of course keep customers updated throughout the day and I’d encourage customers to check the Bee Network app, website and social channels for the latest information and advice.”
