Endurance Swim challenge - QSwim adventure

An endurance swimming challenge is to be hosted at MediaCity this weekend, which is “guaranteed to provide an unmissable experience.”

The MCUK Swim Challenge will be held at Dock 9 at Salford Quays on Saturday 5 July.

The event will see around 100 participants with a passion for both endurance sports and open water swimming push themselves to the limit around Salford Quays.

Throughout the day, participants and residents will be able to get involved as the event will aim to create a friendly atmosphere with keen competition.

As Karen Quartermain, from Q Swim Adventure said: “It’s important to support local events as it brings lots of visitors into the area and helps promote Media City and all it has to offer.

“You never know you may be inspired to give it a go yourself one day.”

The event will be only open for swimmers with experience, as they will be taking on endurance distances from 1.5km, 5km, 10km, and 15km – with the 1.5km event being open to competent 10–15-year-olds.

Karen continued: “As long as people are already swimming, they should look to choose a distance that is achievable.

“It is not the day to try for the first time as the open water is very tiring and unlike a pool you cannot rest at the wall every 25m or stand up.”

The event will see participants taking on the open water challenge with various goals in mind.

“This event offers a range of distances to cover those starting out and challenging themselves to the 1.5km right up to swimmers training for the English Channel,” Karen added.

And with the event being hosted in open water, she also shared the benefits that an event such as this will bring, she said: “There are so many physical and mental health benefits.

“Being outdoors is the best medicine ever and water whether it’s a small dip or a longer swim, it helps boosts those feel-good hormones.”

The MCUK Swim Challenge will also run alongside the usual casual swim session, which will create a buzzing atmosphere, with over 150 swimmers and supporters in attendance.

The event will start from 8am, on Saturday 5 July, with a cutoff time at 3pm – and whether you are a strong and experienced swimmer or looking to show support it looks to be an unmissable experience at Salford Quays.
