Salford City transfer

It has been a very busy transfer window for Salford City as they bid to push for promotion out of League Two this season. Here is a roundup of the January incomings and outgoings that have reshaped Karl Robinson’s side.

The Ammies have completed deals for four new signings to strengthen in defence and attack, as well as renewing former Sunderland striker Fabio Borini’s contract until the end of the season.

Defender Zach Awe was the first to join, signing an 18-month deal from Southampton. The 22-year-old has already featured in two substitute appearances for the club and will provide vital defensive cover as the season progresses.

Next through the door was forward Ryan Graydon, who joined the club for an undisclosed fee from fellow fourth-tier side Fleetwood Town, and it’s fair to say he has hit the ground running in a Salford shirt.

Three goals and two assists in his first five matches have helped propel The Ammies into an automatic promotion spot, and he will hope his fine form can continue going into the last few months of the campaign.

Deadline Day saw two more youngsters join on loan, with defender Alfie Dorrington joining on loan from Spurs, as well as striker Princewell Ehibhatiomhan on loan from Southampton.

The latter spent the first half of the season with promotion rivals Swindon Town, where he scored one goal in 14 matches, and will be looking to find better goalscoring form at The Peninsula.

Dorrington spent the first half of the season with Aberdeen, making 14 appearances, including in the Europa League and Europa Conference League, so he can provide valuable experience to the squad, despite being in the early stages of his career.

Not many players left the club this January window, with the only permanent move of note being the departure of fullback Kevin Berkoe to Shrewsbury, after the defender spent a large part of his five-year stint at Salford City out on various loan spells.

Karl Robinson will be hoping these reinforcements will guide them into League One in a season where the promotion race is wide open, as his side currently sit in the third and final automatic promotion spot with 17 matches left to play.
