A beautician from Salford has launched a Go Fund Me appeal to help people who are at their most vulnerable in life to succeed in the beauty industry.
Wendy, who also goes by the name Efomo, has owned La Bella Aesthetics for five years and has lived in Salford for 17 years after moving from Ashton-Under-Lyne.
Wendy said: “When you talk to young people, I speak to a lot of ladies, a lot of people are just going through life.”
When moving to Salford Precinct she recalled thinking: “What can I do differently?
“Girls from college would come to train at my salon for two to three weeks to get experience, but for some people after those two weeks were over, they cannot stand on their own two feet.”
Her goal is to help women from the Salford and Manchester communities by raising money for CPD registered training, aesthetics equipment, helping the girls shadow and allowing them to rent a chair in her shop.
Wendy said that her training cost her around £5,000 and that “aesthetics isn’t cheap.”
This is why she decided that she would create the go fund me to raise 600 pounds to put towards the girls she will sponsor.
Wendy spoke about one girl who she currently wants to sponsor who has a medical condition. She tries to encourage the girl by saying kind words and not to let her condition limit her.
Wendy said: “She says she struggles to get up in the morning. I push her to come to the shop.”
Wendy said that for every job they do in the shop, they will take 60%, the business will take 40%.
“She was very happy, last week she got me flowers.”
The girl said “someone has never been this nice to me” and that “you remind me of my mum.”
Wendy said that this meant a lot to her as the young woman who she gave the opportunity to grew up in a foster home, and has had it harder than most.
Wendy said: “I am very proud of her, I give grace and I encourage her to be professional at all times.
” A lot of people, despite having their certificate, still don’t have the confidence to start, you don’t want to mess up somebody’s hair or face.”
Wendy said that she really wants the opportunity to go to people who are passionate about beauty and says that she does not want to waste resources, but also said ” I will help as many people as I can”.
she said that people “pouring their hearts out her” was her driving motivation for raising the money.
“I want to inspire two or three people, we’re going to hold their hand all the way through, they need to gain confidence.
“People are going through a lot, I would never judge someone.”
Wendy would also love to help people who are capable and on benefits re-integrate back into working.
She wants to help two to three women specialise at something they are passionate about within beauty so they can “master one thing” and find success.
