Salford Red Devils Head Coach Paul Rowley is looking to build a more ‘connected performance’ following last week’s performance against Leigh Leopards.
The Red Devils produced a valiant display at the Leigh Sports Village, and despite the defeat were the first team on the scoresheet via Joe Mellor.
Paul Rowley’s side were able to perform in the first half, entering the changing rooms only six points down.
And despite the second half performance from the Leopards, scoring five times, the Reds were certainly able to take a lot of encouragement from their travels.
Ahead of tonight’s away game to The Wire, Paul Rowley shared some positive thoughts from his teams performance.
He said: “I thought we were connected more in offence and that resulted in a higher completion rate, so we asked more questions.
“I think the introduction of Rowan Milnes and Joe Mellor in the halves brought us stability, clarity and like I said before, with communication and clarity, a byproduct is a higher completion rate, so that puts you in the game.”
Rowley added: “There are some clear improvements off the back of that high completion rate. We need to defend well and then you get in that arm wrestle, and if you do them two things, you get in the arm wrestle.
“I spoke last week about different players and new players, the fundamentals never change, and they’re the fundamentals that I speak about.
“Replicate, but add another layer to our attack because we’ve had another week in training, so we’d like that to improve while retaining a solid completion rate,” he said.
“Some improvements in our 1v1 defending, but particularly control of the ruck against a team that have a lot of pace – Walker, Dufty, Williams – who will punish you in and around that ruck area if we’re loose or allow that to be too quick.”
The Red Devils will kick off at 8pm at the Halliwell Jones Stadium – more information can be found here.
